You have made the decision to invest your time in building your skills in social media and it's important to now get the most from this experience.  At Frankly Pharma we like to keep it actionable so we have provided 5 practical tips for getting the most from your experience.

Of course we'd love to hear what works for you so if you have extra tips you'd like to share then hit the contact button and let us know!

Tip #1: Set up your physical environment

One of the best things about online learning is that it can be in an environment that suits you.  Whether at home or in the office, it's important that you pick a space that's conducive to learning to get the most from your experience.

Find a quiet space
Pick a space that's free from outside noise if possible. If you are in an office environment then try and find a quiet meeting room where you won't be disturbed.

Get the basics right
Check that your chair is comfortable and set to the right height, your monitor is set up arm's length away and your mouse is in easy reach.  There's plenty of ergonomics guides online, so if you are not sure (or if your set up doesn't feel right), google and double check before you get started.

Make sure your area is free from clutter
A messy learning environment can lead to distraction and reduce your ability to focus. Constant reminders of day-to-day tasks we need to do can understandably make it hard to concentrate. So, before you sit down for your first course then we'd recommend selecting an environment that is clean and free from the clutter of every day life and work.
Tip #2: Set aside a regular time
It's hard to prioritise a long term goal like upskilling when you have the everyday pressures of a demanding job.  One easy way you can make sure you carve out time is to set up a recurring time each week that you dedicated to your learning. This can be as little or as much as you can - for some people it might be a couple of days a week, other people might want to dedicate a larger block of time once a week.  Choose the option that works best for you with your weekly schedule and be realistic about what's achievable.

Tip #3: Set goals for your training
Like anything in life, you'll achieve a better outcome if you can set clear, measurable and realistic goals with your training.  The frankly pharma approach is unique as we also provide practical guides for you to put in to action and we'd recommend that your goals include a combination of course completion as well as putting those learnings in to action.

For example your goal might be:

"Complete the social media strategy and planning course and have completed a social media strategy for one of my brands by the end of April."

Write down your goal, then work out the action steps to get there -  ensure you have the time set aside to not only complete the course, but also complete your follow up actions.

To really help you stick to it, commit your goal to your team and your manager!

Tip #4: Make it real
It's unfortunately part of being human that we forget new skills that we learn and the forgetting curve shows us that the biggest drop in retention happens soon after we learn something.  To retain that skill we need to review our new knowledge over time and to make your new skills meaningful.

One great way of doing this is to put your training in to practice.  When you finish a module then take time to consider how you can use this in your role, download the tools and templates and give it a try.  If you can't immediately use these skills on brands you work on, use your skills and templates to create plans and strategies for brands you have worked on in the past, or volunteer to assist on other brands who might be planning or implementing social campaigns.

Tip #5: Congratulate yourself
It's not easy to set aside regular time to upskill and although it's great for your longer term career goals, it can mean longer hours in the interim.  It's important to be realistic about your expectations and to recognise your achievements. This might mean a mini reward when you hit a milestone, complete a course or put one of your learnings in to practice.  Of course, everyone's motivations are different so we'll leave you to pick a reward that works for you!
