For long-term content planning, you’ll typically develop a content strategy that guides the content you produce on an ongoing basis to help achieve your objectives. This strategy also outlines an agreed publishing frequency and provides structure for consistent delivery. Tools commonly used at this stage include strategic content pillars, editorial calendars, an editorial process map, and social listening.
Campaign content planning, on the other hand, focuses on shorter bursts of activity. This involves planning and developing all the content you will publish across your social platforms for a specific campaign. The content calendar template is a key tool here, as it documents the copy and visuals for each planned post. This makes it much easier to share content with internal teams and submit it for medical, legal and regulatory (MLR) review. 

The content calendar template can also be used for annual content planning. When using it this way, we recommend duplicating the template to create a separate tab for each month. This allows you to easily review past content to ensure alignment and consistency over time, while also helping reviewers quickly see what has been approved previously.
